To do this renovation properly, we needed to understand what Techbuilt was all about. Here is a sample of the types of materials we came across in our initial research.  The Techbuilt house was the creation of Carl Koch, architect and professor at MIT.  Koch designed and developed the Techbuilt prefab building system  based upon the standardized 4x8 plywood panel. He started shipping Techbuilt packages in 1953 and sold a reported 3000 homes. Most of the houses were built in the Northeastern and mid Atlantic regions. The Techbuilt system allowed for and encouraged a variety of configurations based upon the 4x8 grid. Koch is considered among many to be the grandfather of prefabricated housing. I tend to think that his greatest contribution was the development of modular prefabrication systems.
